    My Iceland Birthday Adventures

    September 2, 2018

    Gabe Raykin (10 years old)

    Dear Readers,

Today, I will be writing about my Iceland Adventures.  I was very excited to go to Iceland for my 9th birthday trip.

    Day 1

We landed in Reykjavik Airport (the capital of Iceland).  I was terribly hungry and jetlagged.  So our family decided to eat at the café in the airport called Joe the Juice.  We had smoothies and sandwiches.

Then, we rented a car and drove to see geysers and waterfalls.  We settled into one of the Golden Circle Apartments.  Then, we walked to Fontana Spa in which we ate lunch and swam in Fontana Hot Springs.  Later we had dinner at Linden Restaurant in which I tried Reindeer burger (it was pretty good!)

    Day 2

In the morning, we had breakfast buffet at the hotel.  Then, we drove to Pingvellir National Park where we walked for a few hours.  Then we drove to a different hotel (Hotel Husaffel).  We saw beautiful waterfalls on the way.

    Day 3

The next day was my birthday!  We took a bus up to the mountain that led us to an ice cave.  The ice cave had sculptures and rooms all made out of ice.  The cave was made out of ice, too.  One of the rooms was an ice chapel in which the people on the tour sang Happy Birthday to me.  We spent an afternoon at the pool in the hotel.  We had an amazing dinner at the hotel and I got chocolate lava cake for dessert.

    Day 4

In the morning, we went to a lave cave made entirely out of lava.  It was also used as a scene from Indiana Jones and The Raiders of the Lost Ark (I love that movie!).  Then, we drove back to Reykjavik.  At Reykjavik, we went to the top of the main church to see a panoramic view of the city.  We climbed back down where we ate hot dogs at a famous hot dog stand.  Bill Clinton actually ate there!  Later we had dinner at GrillMarket.  It was incredible!  I tried many new things including whale, monkfish and octopus.

    Day 5

We went to the Blue Lagoon.  The Blue Lagoon is a beautiful natural body of water filled with minerals.  Sadly, we had to go back to the airport.  I really enjoyed out trip and would love to go back to Iceland one day!
