With all these news about tainted alcohol and food poisoning at Caribbean all-inclusive resorts many of our clients keep asking a question: How bad the situation with food and alcohol is?
We have just conducted a study to find out the probability of food or alcohol poisoning at Caribbean all-inclusive resorts.
We simply performed text mining on TripAdvisor reviews on over 50 most popular all-inclusive resorts among our clients and found out the percentage of people who complaint about this issue. We understand that not everybody complaints and we don't know severity of such cases. However we can easily see the overall picture.
The average probability get poisoned among all these resorts is 0.4%. Which means that among 1000 people, 4 might get food or alcohol poisoning.
Given such low probability I don't see any major concerns why you should skip your Caribbean vacation because all these news that are not justified by facts. Just keep an eye how much and what you drink, pay attention what you eat and in certain destinations (e.g. Dominican Republic) use bottled water for drinking and brushing your teeth.
