Family Travel Concierge is so happy to partner with Context Travel! The objective of Context Travel is to give all its curious travelers a “context” and a prospective background to the individual’s heritage or destination of interest. Therefore Family Travel Concierge is partnering with Context to offer 15 Jewish Historical Tours worldwide. This is a great opportunity for those that are interested in exploring their family’s cultural roots. From Berlin, Prague, Rome, London, Vienna, Amsterdam, and everything in between, we have a tour relating to your family’s history. We  specialize in tours, which visit Holocaust Memorials and Jewish Ancient Synagogues all around the world. Although these tours may not seem kid friendly, Context docents tailor the tour to your child’s interests and hobbies. For delicate topics regarding the Holocaust, Context has compiled resources for you to inform your child before the trip.

I will highlight a couple of the Jewish Tours that Context Travels offers. For more information on any of the 15 Jewish tours please check out: https://www.contexttravel.com

    Sachsenhausen Camp Excursion (Berlin):

Some tourist may stop in Berlin for the various tourist attractions that can be found within the capital city of Germany, but this tour is for those that are seeking a deeper understanding of the harsh reality that occurred in Berlin, Germany. This tour will explore the concentration camp of Sachsenhausen, which is now left as a public museum.

This camp was the home of 30,000 war prisoners who died of starvation and disease. The five-hour tour spends 2.5 hours on the grounds of the camp exploring the layout and discussing the development of the camp as the war progressed. Alongside the visual tour, docents will discuss the historical background of the political mechanisms that gave rise to concentration camps, as well as humanizing the victims by recounting stories of their life. The tour will also touch upon the recent Neo Nazi attacks of the 1990s, presenting the saddening relevancy today, of the remaining existence of anti-Semitism.

    Jewish Paris and the Marais:

The three-hour tour led by a local Jewish scholar, is fascinating as it is coupled with the unique Jewish history of Paris, guided by an expert in the area.  You will tour King Philippe Auguste’s city wall, which was created as a barrier to limit the entrance of immigrants, specifically Jews. After expelling the existing Jews, the Jews were later invited back as an attempt to gain monetary supplement from in the form of heavy taxes. Located outside the wall, the tour will explore the Jewish Quarter of Marais, which is bustling with kosher cafes, bakeries (even falafel stands!), and historic synagogues.

The guide will discuss the dark and hard days of Jews living in Paris including a visit to the Memorial of the Shoa commemorating the Jewish French victims of the Holocaust. Occupation’s Vichy government roundup of Jewish Parisians to concentration camps will also be reflected upon during the tour, amidst other topics of Jewish Parisian’s complex history.

So join us, as experienced docents share insights and their deep understanding into some of the greatest and historical Jewish sites throughout the world. For help coordinating your journey to discovering your Jewish roots send us an email to  info@familytc.com.
