    Cruising: Myths and Truths

    January 14, 2016

    Myth: CRUISES ARE TOO CROWDED

Reality: With many cruise lines offering smaller ship options,  you can enjoy a more intimate onboard experience as well as additional dock experiences larger ships can’t offer. This means whether you’re on land or at sea, you’ll never have to feel like you’re lacking a little extra elbowroom.

Myth: CRUISES SHIPS ARE FULL OF GERMS

Reality: According to statistics from the CDC and the Cruise Line International Association, you have about a 1 in 12,000 chance of picking up the Norovirus aboard a cruise ship (compared to a 1 in 15 chance on land). But better safe than sorry we say, so many cruise lines have a few additional procedures in place to help prevent the spread of germs and bacteria. Crews use a 'fist-bump' rather than a more traditional handshake to greet passengers allowing for a friendly greeting while at the same time limiting the spread of germs and bacteria.

    Myth: CRUISE SHIPS ARE BORING

Reality: From guest lectures given by experts in diverse fields to parties, spa, casino, and entertainment you’ll always have something to do on board. Not that you’ll spend much time there anyway. And that’s not even covering port stops.

Myth: ALCOHOL IS WAY TOO EXPENSIVE

Reality: On many cruise ships nightcaps, celebratory drinks, thirst-quenching suds, and tasty tipples are all included in one set price! So you can select standard spirits, international beers, and a changing selection of red and white wine without disturbing your wallet.

Myth: THE FOOD IS ALWAYS THE SAME BORING BUFFET

Reality: With dishes like beef tenderloin Carpaccio with orange oil, lobster bisque, and fresh sushi on our daily menus, voyage have become a fine dining experience. And for true foodies, Chef’s Table dinners—complete with expert wine pairings— introduces your taste buds to a world of flavors without even leaving the ship.

    Myth: CRUISE SHIPS AREN’T SAFE

Reality: Statistics show that cruise ships are safer than most other forms of transportation! Crews are highly trained in emergency procedures, and ships are outfitted with the latest state-of-the-art, industry leading safety equipment. Not to mention, every passenger takes part in a master drill that covers all necessary safety procedures for your voyage.

Myth: I’M GOING TO GET SEASICK

Reality: Even if you suffer from motion sickness during car rides or on airplanes, it’s unlikely you will become seasick aboard our ships. In fact, many people don’t notice any motion at all! The sheer size of cruise ships and specialized stabilizers are designed to give you the smoothest ride possible.

    Myth: CRUISES ARE EXPENSIVE

Reality: Cruises are actually quite affordable! Just think, the price of your voyage includes luxurious accommodations, transportation between ports, delicious food, unlimited alcoholic beverages, and onboard activities.
