This summer my family and I went to Portugal. It was really fun and interesting there. I went to Porto, Lisbon, and Algarve. In Porto, I saw the Dom Louis Bridge, and some local teens were jumping down from the bridge into the water for some money from stunned tourists. There were no parents or cops at all!

Also, in the Sao Bento station, there were many designs made out of white and blue tiles on the walls. We went on a Sandeman tour, where we learned how they made port wine and the history of port wine and the company. We took a train to Coimbra and visited the oldest university in Europe. I loved the Tuk-Tuk tour we took. It was bumpy though.
Then, in Lisbon, we went to Castelo de Sao Jorge, which was a castle with amazing views of Lisbon. There were many different neighborhoods in Lisbon, such as Baixa, Alfama, Belem, Bairro Alto, and Chiado. In the neighborhood where my hotel was, Baixa, there was the Santa Justa elevator, where there were also great views of Lisbon. While in Lisbon, we went to a Fado restaurant for dinner. Fado is Portuguese music that is like opera music, and it is somewhat sad but beautiful.

The next day we went to see Belem Tower, and after that we went to Café de Belem and had delicious and warm pasties de nata, which were little custard tarts. We took a day trip to Sintra and visited some castles there, such as Pena Palace, the Moorish Castle and Quinta da Regaleira. My favorite castle was Quinta de Regaleira because it had mysterious winding paths and underground passages.

After Lisbon, my family and I went to Algarve. Algarve was the very southern region of Portugal, so it was warm there. The beaches had beautiful rocks in the water, and the water was a turquoise blue.

Some rocks in the water were humongous and had shapes of animals, people, and objects. My favorite rocks looked like a gorilla sucking its thumb, and an elephant with its trunk lifted up high. My favorite town in Algarve, was Lagos, where we went on a boat ride to see the rocks and caves.

I really liked the cities in Portugal. They were beautiful, fascinating, and exciting to explore.
